Reading Videos

It can be difficult to know how to move your child forward with their reading. We have created this page to share with you a range of videos to demonstrate some reading strategies and ideas.

Talking about pictures is equally as important as reading words. It is fantastic to comment on unusual pictures and/or things you notice in the environment or in daily life. Asking children questions that are open-ended helps them to build their imagination and develop descriptive vocabulary. As children start to get more confident with their writing you could encourage them to make stories about the pictures they see.

Please see the video below which demonstrates how you could support your child at home with this skill:

A little house in the woods

Below is a selection of videos from different year groups which focus on questioning, inference and understanding as well as using phonic knowledge. There are several discussion points that could be picked up on when reading such as expression, tricky words or speech marks, for example.  It is not necessary to work on every reading skill for every book.
