Welcome to Reception

Foundation stage planning is based upon the Curriculum Guidance and the seven areas of learning – Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED); Communication, language,  literacy (L); mathematics (M) communication and language (C&L).  Knowledge and Understanding the World ; Physical Development (PD) and Creative Development (CD), expressive arts and design.  The children take responsibility for their own learning. We plan for a balance between teacher and child initiated activities.

The children learn through play and have lots of fun! We have a fantastic unit which consists of 2 indoor classrooms and a shared outdoor learning area which is safe and secure.

We are also very fortunate as our outdoor area has a sensory garden, a herb garden and a vegetable patch which the children frequently help to maintain, explore and enjoy using.

When the children first start school, they have their own Reception playground which allows them to become used to playtime/lunchtime routines and make new friends. They then are integrated into the main playground with the rest of the school once the Reception team feel the children are ready for this change.

We plan to make the transition from Nursery to Reception and Reception to Year 1 as smooth as possible by working closely with the Nursery settings and Year 1 teachers. The children also start school on a staggered entry allowing them to settle into school in small, friendly groups. Throughout the year the children are encouraged to develop their independence and to be confident and happy; this also helps with their transition to Year 1.

We also have many lovely trips including a days out to Ladyland Farm, trips within our local community and a visit from zoo lab.
